Most of us like to think it depends on whether or not we are a good person and we all know we are a good person so ergo we are all going to heaven... Well except for really bad people like terrorist and people who hurt kids and animals and the guy who cut me off in traffic the other day and almost made me wreck (not mention late for work).... But our eternal destination is not predicated on what we would "like" to believe. Opinion does not factor into our eternal destination, I am a Christian which means I am a very bad person spared from my just penalty of death and hell by a very kind and merciful God who paid my penalty for sin in His life blood. I once thought I was a good person and that God would grade on the Bell Curve after all I wasn't Mother Theresa but I wasn't Hitler either and I'd never killed any one! But then the Law of God showed me how God saw me and that He had every right to punish me by sending me to hell for the sins I had committed against Him. Once I understood who I had sinned against, that I had sinned and what I justly deserved for that sin then I looked upon the cross of Christ much differently. It stopped being a bible "story" and became the kindest and most merciful thing ever witnessed by and done for humanity. The penalty that I should rightly pay for my sins was paid by God Himself in His sinless life and death on the cross rising again on the third day that I might be forgiven, released from the just penalty and spend eternity in fellowship with Him and worship of Him.
